Povestea Grupului Stereo începe în anul 1981, ca o colaborare între compozitorul Adrian Enescu şi un duo vocal format din Crina Mardare și Elena Perianu, ambele absolvente ale Conservatorului „Ciprian Porumbescu” din București.
Această colaborare se concretizează pe plan discografic prin producția, în același an, a unui prim single – un disc de vinil de 7″ cu două piese, „Dansul timpului” și „În vis”, publicat de Electrecord. Sunetul conceput de Enescu pentru Grupul Stereo reprezintă expresia interesului acestuia pentru aria pop-ului electronic, disco-funk dansabil, încărcat cu o atmosferă melancolică, sunet care se va regăsi, parțial, și pe cele două albume de autor ale muzicianului bucureștean, Funky Synthesizer I (1982) și Funky Synthesizer II (1984), ambele publicate de Electrecord.
În 1985, casa noastră de discuri edita pentru Grupul Stereo singurul ei LP, pe disc de vinil și casetă audio. Muzica îi aparţinea aceluiași Adrian Enescu, în vreme ce textele erau semnate de poetul Lucian Avramescu.
Este un album de electropop mai studiat decât cel din 1981, care se aliniază trendului internațional, dar care integrează și formule şi influenţe folclorice locale, explorate de Adrian Enescu și în soundtrack-urile realizate pentru filmele românești din acea perioadă.
Albumul din 1985 al Grupului Stereo este unul unic în peisajul pop al anilor ‘80, deschizând un drum complet nou pentru muzica românească. Proaspăta sa reeditare devine, din acest motiv, un disc de neratat pentru melomani și colecţionari.
